An Introduction

Hey, hi, hello! I'm Sam Woodhouse, an animation student in Auckland, New Zealand. I study animation because I want to focus on becoming as good of an artist as possible and battling off the slight inconveniences of the day with ease.

These inconveniences include:

  • when I'm a wee bit hungry but slightly lazy
  • not being able to say 'maths' because it always comes out as maz
  • time management
The last few days I haven't been going to school, and it's not really because I'm just lazy... I have depression and anxiety; it's also looking a bit like I might be diagnosed with bipolar disorder but hey, if it's diagnosed I can get treated! I've felt really stupid about not going to class and it's not really helped by classmates taking cheap digs at me for not showing up. Especially considering I know they also suffer from mental ailments. I have until November 13, 2015 to get my stuff submitted - I'm seeing a counselor and organizing things with the school so that it's possible. I think it can be done with a bit of hard work. The thing is, I adore animation and art in general so I really want to continue studying there and the only way to do that is to attend classes.

On a more fun note; I've become a fan of a few pieces of media lately due to my boyfriend, Ricardo. I quite like:
  • The Flash
  • GW2
  • Arrested Development
  • Scrubs
I'm up to season 2 of The Flash and even though I found it hard to get into at first due to the episode length and the seriousness of it. The characters grew on me. Some characters however have lost my interest... cough Iris cough. But hey, not all characters can be perfect. You can expect to hear more of my thoughts on The Flash as I continue to write this blog.

Oh! I also recently watched Birdman which happens to be Ricardo's favourite movie. I expected it to be dumb but I was quite surprised at how much I liked it. The drums, the editing, the acting, the story... it was all just very beautiful and well done. A+, however, my flat did talk about how Emma Stone normally plays a very same same character and it ends up being rather boring seeing her again. I feel like that's a good thing to point out but at the same time, she really fitted that role and brought what she needed to bring to it; but not in a very inspired way. Quite dull to watch. But the protagonist Michael Keaton was mesmerizing. He made it well worth the watch. And how can one not mention the performance by Zach Galifianakis - I've never seen him do a serious character before and my god was it good. I highly recommend watching Birdman

Guild Wars 2 has taken over my life. I have never been put in the Halloween spirit by anything quite as well as this game. I am head over heels in love with it. The art style, the races, the game play. It's all so relaxing and deliciously addicting. It's really my first go at a big MMO so I don't know how well I can talk about, ie; without bias... My favourite character is an OC gone character in this game called Symette. I have 4 other characters that I love but none of them are quite as appealing as her except perhaps my first character, a norn called Aoife Mjoldottir. I'm excited to play more, and I'm ready to be spooked the hell out by some skellys and candy corn elementals.

Arrested Development is hilarious. Easy to watch, doesn't require much brain power. I pretty much started watching it for Lucille and now I watch it for every character. They're all quite funny and move the plot along.

Scrubs is in a similar vain but I've been watching it for slightly longer so I feel more committed to the characters. I have a fair amount of praise and scolding towards each character that I would like to share. I could make posts titled after a characters name and go for it! It'd be nice to have a little discussion and shared ideas about each character. Granted respect for the fact that I'm only up t season 3 and am not overly fond of spoilers.

There's a fair amount more to talk about but this really covers some common thoughts at the moment in my days! Leaves plenty of room to cover more.

I hope you have a lovely day where you get to see a sparrow, unless you don't like sparrows - that could be slightlyinconvenient.
